Frequently asked questions
Answers about the trial lesson, the plans and how the lessons work.
Trial lesson
What is the trial lesson like?
Free, and 50 minutes long. The teacher assesses your level, understands your goals and shows you how the lessons work.
Plans and rescheduling
How much does it cost, and how do the plans work?
A fixed time every week, or a flexible plan where you schedule each week with any teacher who has a free slot. The prices are talked through with you after the trial lesson.
Can I pause my plan?
Going away, or need a break? The plan can be paused for a period of dates, with no notice and no limit on how many times. The lessons in that period are not lost: they become pause credits, which you use later, within three months.
The lessons
Are the lessons one-to-one and online?
You get one teacher’s attention in each lesson, at your time, from wherever you are. It is not a group: it is a conversation that follows your work.
Are the lessons in Portuguese or in English?
Some teachers speak Portuguese and some give the whole lesson in English. You tell us how you prefer to start.
How does the teacher know where to pick up?
Each lesson records what was covered and where to pick up. If another teacher takes over one day, she knows where you left off.
How do I keep track of my lessons and credits?
You see your credits and your lessons on the platform HOWZIT built for that.
The school
Who is HOWZIT for?
English for professionals, academics and researchers, in one-to-one online lessons with teachers who understand your field.
Who are the teachers?
HOWZIT brings together teachers with academic backgrounds and a range of accents. The choice starts from what you need to say: research, a meeting, an interview.
